Pricing

How handyman pricing works here.

Most fixture-level work is flat rate. A faucet swap is $175 plus the faucet. A TV mount on a stud is $185. A small drywall patch is $145. You know the price before we start and there's no upcharge at the end.

Larger or open-ended scopes — rot repair, custom shelving, odd diagnostic work — run hourly at $85/hr so you only pay for the time the job actually takes. We tell you the rate before we drive out.

Two-hour minimum, $170, on every visit. Most homeowners batch a short list of fixes into one trip. A list of 4–6 small tasks usually fits inside the minimum and the truck roll cost makes sense for everyone.

Parts you buy, parts we pick up, your choice. We mark up parts we pick up by 15% to cover the trip. No markup on parts you supply yourself.

Same-week scheduling, most weeks.

We're set up to be in Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, Cary, Algonquin, McHenry, Huntley, and Woodstock pretty much every day. Same-day visits happen when our schedule allows. Cities further out — Harvard, Marengo, Janesville WI — typically book 1–2 weeks ahead because we batch those visits.

Honest scope

What we won't take on as handyman work.

We turn down work that doesn't fit our scope. If your job needs a licensed trade or a specialist, we'll tell you and point you to someone who does it well.

  • HVAC system installs and major repairs — refer to an HVAC contractor
  • Septic and well systems
  • Whole-house re-piping, gas lines, water heater install
  • Electrical panel upgrades, new circuits, EV chargers
  • Roof replacement and tear-offs (we patch small leaks)
  • Tree removal or trimming
  • Concrete pours and masonry walls

Bigger projects — kitchen, bath, basement, additions, whole-home — run through our Remodeling scope instead.

From handyman customers

What homeowners say.

Called on a Monday about a leaky faucet and they were out Wednesday morning. Fixed it in under an hour and the price was exactly what they quoted. No surprises.
Mike R.Crystal Lake, IL
We had five interior doors that needed replacing and some trim work in the hallway. They knocked it all out in a day and a half. Everything is square, the paint lines are clean, and they swept up before they left.
Sarah K.McHenry, IL
I've called three different handyman services in the last two years. These guys are the first ones who actually called back the same day. Mounted two TVs and ran the cords through the wall so nothing shows.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum charge?
Two-hour minimum, $170. Most homeowners batch a list of small fixes into one visit so the truck roll makes sense. We can usually get 4–6 small tasks done inside the minimum.
Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
Most fixture-level work is flat rate — you know the price before we start. Drywall patches, faucet swaps, TV mounts. Larger or open-ended scopes (rot repair, custom shelving) run hourly at $85/hr so you only pay for the time it actually takes.
How fast can you get here?
Same-week scheduling on most jobs. Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, Cary, and Algonquin are often same-day. Cities further out (Janesville WI, Harvard, Marengo) typically book 1–2 weeks out.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Built Solid Home Services is licensed and insured for both Illinois and Wisconsin. We carry general liability and workers' comp. Certificate of insurance available before any job starts.
Do you do jobs that need a permit?
We pull permits when remodeling work needs them. For handyman work — which by definition is fixture-level and non-structural — almost nothing needs a permit. If your job does, we'll tell you up front.
What if I have a list of small jobs across the house?
Send us the list when you call. We'll quote each item, group them into a single visit, and knock them out in one trip. This is how most of our handyman work gets booked.

Got a list? Let's knock it out.
