Tim and Josh of Built Solid Home Services in a newly remodeled kitchen

The Tim and Josh story

It started with one investment-property remodel.

Read more about Built Solid

Tim first hired Josh to remodel an investment property. One project became the next, and the working relationship grew from a simple reason: Josh knew how to diagnose the problem, build the right fix, and be straight about what the job needed.

Josh brings 25 years in the field. He started in handyman work, installed windows and shower doors, learned under a full-service remodeler, and spent more than a decade running his own remodeling company. Tim has run Northern Illinois home-service businesses since 2008, building the customer service, scheduling, finance, and operating systems behind the work.

Built Solid joins those two lanes: a remodeler's field judgment with an operator's follow-through. Tim runs the office and keeps communication moving. Josh leads the field and the scope. The standard is the same on a repair or a full remodel: understand it, explain it, and build it solid.

Handyman and remodeling questions, answered plainly.

What kind of handyman jobs do you take?
We handle drywall repairs, painting, TV and wall mounting, furniture assembly, doors and windows, finish carpentry and trim, gutters, tile and caulk, and accessibility hardware. If a project needs a specialist or permit-required trade outside our scope, we will tell you before scheduling.
Are estimates free?
Yes. Send the complete task list, photos, location, and product details when relevant. We review the actual scope and provide an estimate at no charge.
How quickly can you schedule a job?
Timing depends on the work, materials, and current schedule. We confirm the appointment and arrival window before the visit rather than promising a turnaround before the scope is reviewed.
What if my job needs a licensed trade or a permit?
Handyman visits stop at the documented handyman boundary. Remodeling projects receive a separate scope review that identifies known permit, engineering, and appropriately qualified trade dependencies and states who is responsible before affected work begins.
What remodeling projects do you take?
Remodeling is a core Built Solid service line. We take kitchen, bathroom, basement, multi-room, whole-home, and full-gut remodeling projects. Each one starts with the property, desired outcome, existing conditions, and a project-specific scope.
How is a remodel different from a handyman request?
Handyman work starts with a task list and often fits a defined visit. Remodeling starts with the desired outcome and property, then moves through an on-site scope, planning decisions, a written proposal, preconstruction, and a coordinated build.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Crystal Lake and serve nearby communities in McHenry County and parts of Lake, Kane, and northwest Cook counties. See our service-area page for current city guides, or send us your address and project details.
