Process

How a deck repair visit goes.

  1. 1

    Inspect the structure

Review the visible boards, railing components, treads, and accessible connections. We separate a defined repair from a larger structural or replacement scope before quoting.

  2. 2

    Replace and repair

Complete the agreed board, railing-component, tread, or accessible-hardware repair.

  3. 3

    Re-tighten & finish

Check the completed repair against the written scope and clean up the work area.

Frequently asked questions

Do you also stain or refinish decks?
Yes, but it follows the separate Deck Staining & Care path. This page covers defined handyman-scale repairs to an otherwise serviceable existing deck.
How do I know if a board needs replacing vs refinishing?
If a board is soft, split, or rotting, it needs replacement — that's repair work. If it's just gray and weathered but solid, it needs staining or refinishing, which is our Deck Staining service.
Should I repair or replace my deck?
It depends on the structure and desired outcome. A few worn boards or defined railing components may make sense to repair. Widespread framing deterioration, a poor layout, or a structure that needs reconstruction belongs in the Decks project path.
Can you do composite deck repair?
A damaged composite board may be replaceable when the original product or a suitable match is available and the underlying deck is serviceable. If the match or structure creates a larger scope, we explain the next project path before quoting it.
What about hot tub or pool decks?
Hot tub and pool deck framing are outside this handyman repair scope because loads and project requirements need a separate structural review.
Do I need a permit to repair my deck?
Requirements vary by municipality and by whether the work is a surface-component repair or changes structural framing. If the reviewed scope appears permit-driven or structural, we move it out of the handyman path before scheduling.
